Melanie Keen

melanie_head_shot[1]“Have fun with dancing” that’s Melanie Keen’s philosophy. Having loved dancing for as long as she can remember, Melanie delivers dance classes that are warm, friendly and above all fun. She began dancing in her living room since before she can remember and attended her first dance class at the tender age of 6. Since then she has been attending dance classes in a variety of different styles throughout her childhood and continuing into adulthood.

Melanie has been teaching languages and then later fitness, aerobics and dance for over 10 years to both adults and children alike. Her dance classes continue to grow in popularity and she is always looking to improve and add to the classes, either by feedback from her students, or her continuing professional development.

Melanie fell in love with Latin American Music when as a young girl she discovered Desi Arnez & His Orchestra on the “I Love Lucy” show and she hasn’t looked back since. She began taking lessons in Latin American and Ballroom during 1994 and then took the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) exams.

Whilst living and working in Russia Melanie started her teaching career. In her final year at university Melanie took Salsa lessons from a visiting Cuban teacher, who taught her the much less common, Cuban Style Salsa. Melanie then went on to begin teaching Salsa whilst living and working in Seville, Spain, combining her love of dancing with her teaching skills proved to be very successful, which led to Melanie setting up her own business in teaching dance in the UK.

Today, Melanie Keen is the founder, proprietor and promoter of Keen Dance, which delivers dance classes to children in schools and after school clubs and a variety of dance styles to adults on weekday evenings and weekends. Keen Dance has delivered two Keen Dance, dance productions and runs a number of dance events.

Melanie is often a guest instructor at other Latin American dance classes as well as being invited to provide Salsa instruction at the Larmer Tree Festival every year since 2001. Melanie has provided choreography and coaching for a number of children’s school performances and local events such as the Kaleidoscope show for the Salisbury Mayor’s Appeal, where she choreographed and organised the Salsa section. Melanie also delivers one off workshops for different organisations and dinner dance functions
